Description
Use this terracotta chorizo pig serving dish to flame spicy sausages at your dinner table. Handmade in Portugal, clay sausage roasters like this one are a familiar sight at barbecues, family gatherings and taverns known as tasquinhas. They are used to grill and flambé all kinds of sausages, from spiced chouriço and linguiça to rustic morcela (similar to black pudding). Shaped like a pig standing proudly to attention, the deep red dish has hand-painted details that give it a charming, rustic look.
The chorizo pig serving dish is handmade by a small family-owned pottery business using natural red clay. It can be used in your oven, on gas stove tops and in wood-burning ovens and grills. It is not suitable for glass or induction hobs.
This terracotta chorizo pig comes in two shapes and sizes: Standing, 30cm and Laying 33cm.
How to use:
Fill the roaster with alcohol, ignite it with a match and place the sausage on top. The more alcohol you use, the longer the flame will last. Traditionally, dry cured sausages are left whole with small cuts along the top. Turn the sausage to ensure uniform crispiness on all sides and once cooked, serve and enjoy!
The flame will give your sausage a smoky, chargrilled flavour that will transport your guests to the petiscos bars of Porto or Lisbon. You can serve your chorizo with crusty bread, salad or a selection of cheeses. It\’s a delicious snack to savour with beer or a glass of red wine.
This traditional Portuguese sausage roaster is ideal for domestic kitchens, as well as bars and restaurants. It will add a touch of fun to parties and barbecues and would make a great gift for a fellow food lover.
Hand washing is recommended. Submerge the entire dish in lukewarm water for at least eight hours before first use. When in use, place the dish on a heat-proof mat to protect your surfaces.
